Instructions for kids swimming schools

Welcome to swim with FitPit!

You can arrive at the swimming pool 10-15 minutes before the start of your swimming school. Entry to the pool should only occur when your specific swimming school session begins.

The swimming schools are held in private pool areas, so there won't be any public customers at the swimming pool. However, there may be another group's class in progress or individuals undergoing rehabilitation in the pool area. We kindly request that you respect the tranquility of the pool area and enter the pool only when your swimming school begins.

Please ensure that your child thoroughly washes with soap before and after swimming. If your child has long hair, they should tie it up with a hairband or use a swim cap. It's also a good idea for your child to use the restroom before the swimming school session begins.

Absences in swimming schools

In swimming schools and small groups, you don't need to notify individual absences. Single absence can be compensated with a separate compensation lessons. By filling compensation lessons form, you will receive instructions for booking a compensation lesson.

Please familiarize yourself with the makeup session policy in our terms and conditions here.

Every swimming school has a fixed instructor, but we are strict that both the customers and instructors remain home when feeling unwell. In these cases we wish for understanding if one of our professional instructors has to substitute the lesson.

  • Pack swimwear, a towel, and swim goggles. Good swim goggles are a crucial part of a successful swimming experience. If desired, the child can wear a swim cap or bring their own swimming equipment.

  • When you register for our swimming school in our online store, you will receive a confirmation via email. The confirmation email will include the dates, times, and location of the swimming school.

Additionally, you will receive a separate introductory email closer to the course start date. This email will provide you with the necessary information for arriving at the swimming facility, such as any door codes if applicable.

  • An adult can accompany the child to the changing room and help the child put on their clothes in the shower area, without wearing shoes or socks, or indoor footwear. If an adult is assisting a child in the changing room, the changing room should be chosen based on the escort's gender.

Children over 7 years old should use the changing room that corresponds to their own gender independently.

  • An adult can accompany the child to the pool area, where the swimming instructor will receive the children.

Once the swimming school begins, parents should move away from the pool area so that we can ensure a peaceful learning environment and so that the children can better concentrate on their swimming.

  • Children's beginner swimming classes are 30 minutes in duration, and regular swimming schools are 45 minutes. You can find the duration of your swimming school in your booking confirmation.

The duration of the swimming school includes the time spent in the pool for swimming instruction, any briefings or feedback sessions, and the distribution of certificates.

The diplomas on children's swimming courses

On FitPit children's swimming schools, each child receives a diploma. The diplomas are given out to each participant during the last swimming lesson. If a child is unable to participate in the last swimming sessions, the diploma can be picked up from the swimming venue by arrangement. We keep the diplomas for one month after the end of the swimming lessons.

At FitPit's swimming schools, the deep pool teaching method is used extensively

Training with a non-swimmer child in the deep pool has been found to be as effective as in the shallow pool. Non-swimmers use the easyswim vest, which gives the child free hands and feet while guiding them into the correct swimming position. This allows us to practice basic swimming styles in the large pool with non-swimmer children.

The advantage of training with the vest is that the child becomes accustomed to swimming in the deep pool, which reduces fear of the deep end. In the deep pool, there are also more repetitions as we are able to move forward in swimming. As the child's self-confidence in their water skills and courage grows, the use of floatation devices is reduced.

  • In Haaga, there is a separate children's pool and a deep pool. Children's swimming lessons are held in both pools. Levels Get to know water and Beginner are primarily taught in the children's pool. The Basics and Intermediate levels are taught in the deep pool. Group lessons are taught in the deep pool regardless of the level.

  • Swimming lessons held in Kauniala are taught in the deep pool.

  • Swimming lessons held in Kilo are taught in the deep pool.

  • In Käpylä, there is one pool with a shallow and deep end. Children's swimming lessons are held in both the shallow and deep ends.

  • In Pasila, there is a separate children's pool and deep pool. Children's swimming lessons are held in both pools. Levels Get to know water and Beginner are primarily taught in the children's pool. The Basics and Intermediate levels are taught in the deep pool.
