Instructions for kids swimming schools
Welcome to swim with FitPit!
Please note that children's swimming lessons are conducted in Finnish
You may arrive at the swimming hall 10–15 minutes before your swimming school begins. Enter the pool area only when your lesson starts. After swimming, please leave the facilities within 15 minutes.
Swimming schools are held in private pool facilities, so there are no general public customers in the hall. However, another group’s lesson may be taking place in the pool area. Please be considerate of others and keep the pool area calm.
Please shower thoroughly with soap before and after swimming. Those with long hair must tie it back with a hairband or wear a swim cap.
Absences in swimming schools
For swimming schools, individual absences do not need to be reported. A single absence can be made up with a separate compensation lesson. By filling compensation lessons form, you will receive instructions for booking a compensation lesson.
You can review the compensation lesson policy in our terms and conditions here.
Every swimming school has a fixed instructor, but we are strict that both the customers and instructors remain home when feeling unwell. In these cases we wish for understanding if one of our professional instructors has to substitute the lesson.
-
Pack swimwear, a towel, and swim goggles. Good swim goggles are a crucial part of a successful swimming experience. If desired, the child can wear a swim cap or bring their own swimming equipment.
-
An adult may accompany a child to the changing room and assist the child in the shower area with clothes on, but without shoes/socks or only with indoor shoes. If an adult assists a child in the changing room, the changing room is chosen according to the adult’s gender.
Children over 7 years old must use the changing room corresponding to their own gender independently.
-
An adult can accompany the child to the pool area, where the swimming instructor will receive the children.
Once the swimming school begins, parents should move away from the pool area so that we can ensure a peaceful learning environment and so that the children can better concentrate on their swimming.
-
Children’s swim schools last 30–45 minutes. You can see the exact duration in your booking confirmation.
The swim school duration includes the pool session as well as any time for greetings, feedback, and the distribution of diplomas.
-
Photography in the pool area is allowed as long as you respect other swimmers and ensure that no one appears in your photos without their consent.
Please make sure that taking photos does not disturb the lesson and that you respect everyone's privacy.
Photography is strictly prohibited in locker rooms and shower areas.
Parents must leave the pool area during lessons
To ensure a calm learning environment and help children get the most out of their lessons, parents must leave the pool area during instruction. Our experience shows that children focus better when parents are not present. This provides a peaceful learning environment for all children in the group and ensures that swimming lessons run smoothly.
Please note that parents are also required to leave the pool area at Kilo swimming hall.
Diplomas in children’s swimming schools
Diplomas are distributed during the last swimming sessions. The diploma shows which swim school the child can continue in to further develop swimming skills. If a child is unable to attend the final sessions, the diploma can be collected from the swimming facility by prior arrangement. Diplomas are kept for one month after the swim school ends.
Deep water teaching method in FitPit swimming schools
FitPit swim schools use deep-water instruction, which is just as effective as training in shallow water. Non-swimming children use a swim vest that frees their arms and legs while guiding them into the correct swimming position. This allows basic swimming techniques to be practiced safely even in deep water.
Training in deep water helps children get used to the pool’s depth and reduces fear. It also allows for more repetitions, as movement takes place while swimming forward. As the child’s confidence and skills develop, the use of floatation aids is gradually reduced.
Kilo swimming schools are conducted in the deep pool
In Käpylä there is one pool with shallow and deep ends. Children’s swim schools are conducted in both the shallow and deep ends of the pool
In Pasila there is a separate children’s pool and a deep pool. Children’s swim schools are conducted in both pools
At SYK swimming hall there is a separate children’s pool and a deep pool. Children’s swim schools are conducted in both pools
At Valkea talo in Haaga there is a separate children’s pool and a deep pool. Children’s swim schools are conducted in both pools
Villa Sarfvik swim schools are conducted in the deep pool
